Biography —
Jeff Sieck grew up in Grinnell, Iowa, and is currently pursuing bachelor's degrees in Chemistry and Physics at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. During the summer of 2026, he joined the Shoshani Research Group as a participant in the University of Kansas Chemistry REU program. His research focused on cooperative carbon–fluorine bond activation using a Ni–Mg heterometallic complex, investigating how Lewis acid–transition metal cooperativity can enable selective bond activation and catalytic functionalization of fluorinated N-heterocycles. At Luther College, Jeff is also a member of the Luther College Men's Soccer team. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry. Outside of the lab, he enjoys playing soccer, hiking, and spending time outdoors with friends.
